Congratulations to Shell Stern, winner of the grant at the winter 2014 Charlottesville SOUP at The Jefferson Theater.

This winter 2014 SOUP was a special edition of SOUP in partnership with the 2014 New City Arts Forum called SOUP at the Forum. The New City Arts Forum is a biennial conference that provides challenging content and artistic engagement for the Charlottesville community with a high emphasis on relationship building. The Forum took place on March 6-8, 2014 with a focus on “Art, Food, and Community.” For SOUP at the Forum,  we sought creative projects that connect to the Forum’s theme in some way. After careful consideration, the SOUP community panel selected four projects to present at SOUP at the Forum:

  •  Ashley Florence – an artist who wants to expand on her “Breadhead” series in a project inspired by Conflict Kitchen
  • Shell Stern – a community organizer who wants to theatrically deliver pretzels from her cobb oven via bicycle while collecting oral histories in her Hogwaller neighborhood
  • Aaron Fein – an artist who wants to explore the intersection of technology and art by making digital embroideries that serve as table runners
  • City Schoolyard Garden – a non-profit organization that wants to build a mosaic in a garden at an area public school

Charlottesville SOUP is officially hosted by New City Arts. Support for SOUP at the Forum was generously provided by Hill and Holler, A Pimento Catering, Skyline Tents, Sugar Magnolias, The Jefferson Theater, and Champion Brewing Company.
